Owner/Artistic Director

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Nykisha is a classically trained dancer with over 25 years of experience in dance education, performance, and mentorship. Her deep passion for dance is rooted in the rich cultural heritage of her hometown, and she has dedicated her life to helping dancers grow—both technically and personally.

Nykisha began her formal training at Feneasa’s Academy of Dance and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). She continued her ballet, pointe, and technique studies at Ballet Hysell. Her performance career includes classical ballet productions, musicals, and film—including a part in the movie Ray. She holds a B.S. in Marketing and an M.S. in Business Management, blending her creative talent with strong leadership and business acumen.

As the founder of In the Key of Dance, Nykisha has created a space where students learn discipline, confidence, and kindness. Known for her guiding philosophies—“Progress Over Perfection” and “Positive Vibes Only”—she fosters an environment where every dancer is encouraged to thrive. Beyond the studio, Nykisha is certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid and actively partners with mental health organizations to ensure her students’ emotional well-being is supported.

Nykisha is also an Amazon #1 Best-Selling Author, with all proceeds from her book A Dancer’s Leap into Accountability going directly to her 501(c)(3) nonprofit to support dancers in need. Her commitment to service, especially after loss, survival, and displacement as a result of Hurricane Katrina, reflects the strength and resilience she brings to every class she teaches.

Her ultimate goal? To shape not just great dancers—but great humans.
