Owner/Artistic Director

Nykisha Banks is a classically trained dance educator, choreographer, and studio owner with more than 25 years of experience in dance training, performance, curriculum development, and youth mentorship. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, she developed her passion for dance through the city's rich artistic and cultural traditions and has dedicated her career to cultivating technically strong, confident, and well-rounded dancers.

Her formal training began at Feneasa's Academy of Dance and continued at the prestigious New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), where she studied multiple dance disciplines with an emphasis on classical technique. She further advanced her ballet and pointe training at Ballet Hysell, developing a strong foundation in classical ballet methodology, alignment, artistry, and performance.

Throughout her performance career, Nykisha has appeared in classical ballet productions, musical theater productions, and film, including a role in the Academy Award-winning motion picture Ray. Her diverse performance background provides students with a comprehensive understanding of both technical training and stage performance.

As Founder and Artistic Director of In the Key of Dance, Nykisha has developed a training program that emphasizes technical excellence, artistic development, discipline, accountability, and character growth. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that strong technique and strong character should develop together. Through structured training, positive mentorship, and high standards, she strives to help dancers reach their fullest potential both inside and outside the studio.

In addition to her dance credentials, Nykisha holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Master of Science in Business Management. This unique combination of artistic expertise and business leadership has enabled her to build a thriving studio culture centered on professionalism, inclusivity, and student success.

Nykisha is also certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid and believes that exceptional dance education extends beyond technical instruction. She actively promotes student well-being and works to create a supportive environment where dancers feel seen, valued, and empowered.
